LONDON:A European pharmaceutical company is to stop selling the erectile dysfunction drug Viagra after a panel of European health professionals revealed they were unsure about whether it is a safe use of its Viagra.

The MHRA's European Commission is to stop selling the erectile dysfunction drug Viagra after the panel revealed it had taken a black box warning into consideration.

A European Commission spokeswoman said: "Pfizer is fully committed to making this drug safe and effective for patients and doctors, and we will continue to work closely with regulatory authorities to ensure the safety and efficacy of Viagra."

Viagra is not available for purchase in the UK under the brand name Cialis.

Pfizer Inc. sold Viagra in the US in the early 1990s, and in Europe in the early 2000s.

Pfizer marketed Viagra under the name Viagra after its patent expired in November 2012.

Viagra's patent expired and the drug was reclassified in February 2013.
